Entry Criteria

In order to train via the School Direct programme, you must meet the following statutory criteria:

  • A British Bachelors degree or recognised equivalent qualification
  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in English language
  • GCSE gradeC/4 or above in mathematics
  • GCSE grade C/4 or above in a science
  • Fundamental skills in maths and English (or the clear capacity to acquire these skills by the end of the training year)
  • Successful safeguarding checks including an Enhanced DBS check
  • A successful 'Fit to Teach' health assessment

Trainees on the salaried route must also be able to demonstrate the 'right to work in the UK'.

These criteria, with the exception of the fundamental skills in maths and English, need to be met in full prior to the commencement of training.

However, if you are still to meet one or more of the entry criteria (such as a degree or a GCSE), we can still consider your application and invite you to attend one of our selection days but any offers made will be conditional on you meeting these criteria before September.

If you have any questions about the criteria or your eligibility, please contact us so that we can provider further advice and guidance.

If you studied outside of the UK, you should contact the National Academic Recognition Centre (NARIC) website to obtain written confirmation that your qualifications are of an equivalent level to the required UK GCSEs and undergraduate degree.

If you have previously withdrawn from, or failed, another teacher training course leading to Qualified Teacher Status, please contact Helen Byrom, Head of Training, to discuss your eligibility on 01280 823374 (option 7).

Open Evening - 6:00pm - 7:00pm on Monday 14th October 2019 at Bourton Meadow Academy.
