School Direct (Tuition Fee)

Applicants applying for a School Direct (tuition fee) place will be on a non-salaried route into teaching. They are required to pay a tuition fee for the course and the cost of this will depend on whether or not they choose to work towards the addtional PGCE qualification. 

Once trainees have accepted a place on this training programme, they can apply to the Student Loans Company for a tuition fee loan to cover the cost of their training. Depending on their circumstances, they may also be eligible for other funding such as:

  • Maintenance Grants
  • Maintenance Loans
  • Childcare Grants
  • Parents’ Learning Allowance
  • Disabled Students’ Allowance

Alternatively, trainees may choose to pay the tuition fee out of private funds.  Please contact us for details of the payment schedule.

Trainees on the tuition fee route will also be required to cover the cost of an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application; a prerequisite for working in schools. The cost of this is approximately £60.
